This Ramadan, Gaza is facing an unprecedented humanitarian crisis amid Israel's continued genocide and starvation of the Palestinian people. The brutal attacks by the occupation have affected Palestinians everywhere. In the West Bank, the situation has escalated further since October 2023, with severe restrictions on civilian and commercial movement. Many donors have pulled their funding, which significantly impacted the economy. According to a recent World Bank report published in February 2024, “the Palestinian economy experienced one of largest shocks recorded in recent economic history”.
In the face of this war and collective punishment against all Palestinians, universities play a prominent role in overcoming these challenges. Thus, our annual Ramadan campaign becomes increasingly important, with the deterioration of the economic situation, resulting in more students becoming entirely deprived of their education. Our Ramadan campaign aims to raise funds to provide scholarships for financially disadvantaged students, to complete their higher education to lead and advance their communities.
With the unwavering support of our global community of friends, advocates and dedicated alumni, we were able to provide over 400 scholarships to unprivileged students last year. As the current situation worsens, we aim to support more students facing financial challenges.
